Schlemmer promotes talent: Romanian motorsport racer in the top ranking

Emanuel “Mani” Gyenes from Satu Mare ranks among the top fifteen drivers at the Dakar Rally 2016

For Emanuel “Mani” Gyenes, the journey from French Le Havre to Poing in Upper Bavaria was a walk in the park compared to the 9,246 kilometres the Romanian motorcyclist put behind him during the Dakar Rally 2016. The 32-year-old professional racing driver, who had already won a silver medal at the International Six Days and second place at the Central Europe Rally, this year received support for the first time from the Schlemmer Group’s Romanian branch in Mani’s home town, Satu Mare. Competing against over 300 participants, the 32-year-old Romanian took part in the 38th Dakar Rally in Argentina and Bolivia in January 2016. And the ordeal of competing in the rally paid off for Gyenes: The independent driver achieved an incredible 14th place with his KTM motorcycle and met his own goal by ranking within the top 15. “It couldn’t have gone any better for me, I am more than satisfied with the result,” Gyenes enthused after the race.

In the wake of this victory, the Schlemmer Group invited Gyenes to their headquarters in Poing on 25 February 2016 to congratulate the sporting talent on his success in person. “Whether as a private patron of the German Federal Government’s Deutschlandstipendium or a sponsor for sportsmen and women, promoting talent has been at the heart of the Schlemmer Group’s concept of social responsibility for several years now. We’re really proud of this as a company,” stressed Josef Minster, CEO of the Schlemmer Group. “We are even more delighted to receive such positive news as with Emanuel Gyenes’ rally success.”

The meeting also offered Gyenes the opportunity to report on his experiences as a motor sport racer and frequent competitor at the Dakar Rally. He also used the event to thank the Schlemmer Group. “Thanks to the financial support I received, I was able to fully concentrate on my racing and achieve the most successful ranking of my career at the Dakar Rally 2016,” Gyenes glowed.

And the Romanian’s goals are still highly ambitious. In April, he plans to join the starting line at the Abu Dhabi Desert Challenge, and for his next appearance at the Dakar Rally in 2017 his goal is to come within the top 10.
