VG WORT
Communications for the German copyright reform (“second basket”)
VG WORT, the German collecting society for text authors, was founded in February 1958. It is an association with conferred legal capacity in which authors and publishers administer their copyrights collectively.
The purpose of this non-profit association is to administer, in trust, the usage rights and remuneration claims entrusted to it by its members. That means securing fair remuneration for authors and publishers and collecting payment from those who use other people’s intellectual property. The income gathered from numerous sources is then distributed to authors and publishers according to fixed distribution plans.
Like all German collecting societies, VG WORT is subject to state supervision by the German Patent and Trade Mark Office.
WORDUP PR advised VG WORT over a period of eight years. The high point was the „Ja zur Privaten Kopie“ campaign around the reform of German copyright law — the so-called second basket — in the early 2000s. Newsletter projects, events and the production of the annual report also fell to the agency. Alongside VG WORT, WORDUP PR has advised many other organisations and associations on internal and external communications, among them the music rights society GEMA, the Fachverband Besser Heizen e.V. and, since 2007, the German association for small and medium-sized businesses Der Mittelstand.
