  • Future of PR: Growing Importance Due to AI

Future of PR: Growing Importance Due to AI

Search behavior in the digital space is currently undergoing massive changes. More and more people, when querying specific terms or topics, no longer just use a classic search engine, but also consult AI systems like ChatGPT, Gemini, or Perplexity. These systems do not display hit lists, but rather formulated answers based on a “prompt”. Consequently, an AI-generated search never shows all results available on the web for a question, but instead generates a text-based answer supported by selected content.

But what content is actually displayed in an AI answer, or to put it another way: can you specifically place your own topics in an AI search result? Generally, AI analyses particularly consider the credibility and factual soundness of a source. Therefore, the quality and origin of information become correspondingly important. A central aspect of Generative Engine Optimization (GEO – as a further development of SEO) is thus the authenticity and depth of discoverable information. It is crucial whether a company or person is perceived by the AI as a competent actor or can even establish thought leadership on a topic.

AI Systems Use Credibility and Reputation

And this is precisely where PR comes in. The technical term in our industry is: Earned Content. This refers to media content independently disseminated by third parties, such as press reports, specialist articles, keynotes, or quotes and mentions in relevant media. A contribution in a specialist magazine, for example, is generally considered reliable because it has usually been journalistically reviewed and evaluated. Therefore, those who are regularly present in relevant media have a better chance of being considered as a source in AI-generated answers. At this point, structured PR work gains a completely new significance in corporate communications, as it acts as a central tool to increase credibility and reputation through targeted publications and mentions.

WORDUP PR looks back on over 30 years of experience in the media representation of corporate content. Like many others in our industry, we also believe that professional public relations will become an even more significantly important instrument in the symphony of corporate communications with the triumph of AI-based information retrieval. Many are already speaking of the approaching “golden age of PR”. Feel free to contact us – we will analyze how you can prominently place your company in AI search results through targeted press and public relations work, thereby optimally communicating your brand and messages in the digital space.

  • Local election campaign promotion

    Local election campaign promotion

The Munich-based PR agency WORDUP has been supporting the local election campaign of the voters’ group PPM – Pro Planegg & Martinsried since December of last year. Their lead candidate, Philipp Pollems (pictured), aims to win the mayoral election on March 8th and, together with the voters’ group (a total of 24 candidates on the ballot), shape the future of politics in this Munich suburb.

WORDUP’s first major task was the conception and implementation of the website, which presents campaign content, the mayoral candidate, and all PPM members in detail. The experienced Munich PR agency, with its strong political focus, is also handling the ongoing content creation for the site and the strategic direction of the social media activities.

At least the first milestone has been reached – PPM has collected the required 180 citizen signatures and is therefore eligible to participate in the 2026 local elections.

In the coming weeks leading up to the election campaign, the focus will be on further sharpening the political profile of the mayoral candidate and all his supporters, and anchoring it in the hearts of voters through high-profile public campaigns.

WORDFUIP PR wishes the organizers at Pro Planegg & Martinsried every success and a resounding victory.

Bavarian State Minister Ulrike Scharf emphasized the event’s significance in her opening address: “Culture is not an add-on – it creates identity. Culture is what remains when everything else crumbles. It is what connects us as human beings – across origins, language, and generations.”

Nobel laureate in Literature Herta Müller delivered a moving tribute to freedom and democracy, poignantly underscored by her own horrific experiences of oppression and repression.

Honorary Prize recipient Dr. Maria Furtwängler, in her acceptance speech, recalled, among other things, her childhood, when many animal species were still commonplace, species that we now rarely or never see in Germany.

The German Culture Prize 2025 received unprecedented media attention in its history since 1985. Two dpa news reports brought the topic prominently to the forefront of many leading media outlets across Germany in recent weeks. München.tv, TV Bayern Live/RTL, and the Süddeutsche Zeitung all featured extensive articles yesterday and today. Finally, Dr. Furtwängler appeared on the BR Abendschau program with Roman Roell on Friday evening, where she reiterated her concerns about nature and the environment. Naturally, the magnificent prize sculpture by MEISSEN, personally presented by CEO Tillmann Blaschke, was also prominently featured throughout the coverage.

It was a pleasure and an honor for all of us at WORDUP PR to work for the Chairman of the Foundation, Dr. Klaus P. Arnold, and Board of Trustees member Kolja von Bismarck.

  • Political dialogue on digital civil liberties

Political dialogue on digital civil liberties

“Freedom in reserve?” How much digital security does our country need, and how much freedom can it cost? These were the central questions of a hybrid press event that WORDUP PR organized and moderated in October at the Munich Press Club. These experts from politics and business debated the controversial government plans to introduce data retention:

Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger, former Federal Minister of Justice
Dr. Michael Ruoff, State Chairman of the FDP Bavaria
Sebastian v. Bomhard, Founder and Chairman of The Board, of SpaceNet AG

Moderated by WORDUP Managing Director Achim von Michel

The renewed inclusion of this approach in the coalition agreement brings the issue back into full focus – even though the European Court of Justice (ECJ) declared the precautionary data collection unlawful in 2022 following SpaceNet’s lawsuit in 2016 (confirmed by the Federal Administrative Court in 2023). The positions taken by the press club were unanimous: Indiscriminate, blanket, and unlimited data retention is a “perpetual revenant” and poses massive risks to our digital civil liberties. Currently, the German regulation of indiscriminate, unprovoked, and general data retention is contrary to EU law.

However, with new political initiatives at the federal and European levels, data retention appears to be returning to the center of the political debate. Munich-based PR agency WORDUP has a strong mandate to continue highlighting the digital civil liberties of citizens in Germany and Europe and to critically examine and comment on such initiatives.

The full press event can be found in the stream on YouTube. Reports were provided by the Tagespiegel and the IT-Sicherheit portal, among others.

  • Accompanying the German Culture Prize 2025

Accompanying the German Culture Prize 2025

In August, the Munich-based Stiftung Kulturförderung commissioned the agency WORDUP PR to provide comprehensive PR support for the German Culture Prize 2025.

Stiftung Kulturförderung was founded in 1985 by Munich-based publisher Roland Wolf. The foundation’s primary objective is to award the German Culture Prize to individuals, institutions, or as start-up funding. The German Culture Prize has been awarded at irregular intervals since 1985. The main prize is endowed with up to €30,000; an honorary prize with a limited or unfunded endowment is also awarded. The prize is presented in two categories: one focuses on culture in all its forms; the other focuses on nature in all its diversity. Well-known winners include Klaus Töpfer, Daniel Barenboim, Dennis L. Meadows, Sir Peter Ustinov, Silvia of Sweden, and August Everding.

The next award ceremony will take place in November in the presence of around 200 invited guests at the Bayerischer Hof Hotel in Munich.

WORDUP PR was commissioned with the relaunch of the website, the design and management of all invitation processes, and the accompanying public relations work for the two renowned award winners. The agency is thus building on previous, successful assignments in the field of award ceremonies (Rudolf Diesel Medal) and for foundations (Dr. Pfleger Foundation, Lauterbacher Mühle Foundation, Karl Böhm Foundation for the Promotion of Highly Gifted Musicians).

“We are delighted to be working for a foundation rich in tradition that combines two central focuses that cannot be given enough attention in the current climate: promoting culture and preserving nature,” commented WORDUP Managing Director Achim von Michel.

    WORDUP wins Davos Communication Award

WORDUP PR is among the winners of this year’s Davos Communication Award from the World Communications Forum Association (WFCA). At the official awards ceremony on April 9 in Davos, the Munich-based PR agency received the silver award in the “Global Communication Campaign” category.

The award recognized the comprehensive PR campaign surrounding the Global AIDS Report 2024, in which WORDUP supported the Geneva-based Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS). Approximately 3 billion people worldwide were reached as a result of the trilingual press conference, broadcast live and digitally from the Munich Press Club, as well as other accompanying PR measures. Winnie Byanyima, Executive Director of UNAIDS and Under-Secretary of the United Nations, was also present in Munich. As part of the AIDS 2024 Congress, thousands of people living with, affected by, and working on HIV gathered in Munich to share knowledge, best practices, and lessons learned from the HIV response over the past 40 years and from health threats such as COVID-19 and MPOX.

“Over the course of its more than 30-year history, WORDUP PR has worked for clients from 13 nations. This award recognizes our high level of commitment to planning and executing cross-border communications plans and makes us very proud,” said Achim von Michel, owner of WORDUP PR.

Print is alive: Handelsblatt supplement on the economic crisis

For the Federal Association of Medium-sized Businesses in recent weeks, employees at WORDUP PR have helped create a supplement for the complete edition of the Handelsblatt, which was published nationwide in the daily newspaper on December 12th. In addition to guest contributions from members of the BVMW political advisory board (federal politicians from the FDP, Greens, CSU and SPD), the supplement also contains text contributions from member companies of the medium-sized business association who present their companies and their positions in exclusive advertorials.

BVMW Chairman Christoph Ahlhaus emphasized in his editorial: “It is time for us to leave the paralyzing time of the leaving government behind us and look forward again.” The BVMW supplement offers concrete solutions to current challenges and shows how SMEs prepares itself successfully for the future. Topics of the future for medium-sized businesses such as the use of artificial intelligence in road construction, digital change in the taxi industry and the future of the world of work and many other innovative ideas give the supplement real impetus for a new start in the coming year.

WORDUP PR has been creating content for the website and social media channels for the security service provider Secur Solutions from Gräfelfing near Munich since the beginning of the year, and is also responsible for all press work. A focus of the past few months has been the presentation of management and employees in short video clips. • System catering: Pilot project in Munich

System catering: Pilot project in Munich

The Munich Thai food chain Kaimug is expanding its offering with a new, innovative shop-in-shop concept in the REWE market at the “Neue Balan – Campus of Ideas”, which is run by the independent merchant Sevdaim Terzija. In an area of just 18 square meters, Kaimug now offers REWE customers freshly prepared Thai dishes of restaurant quality – directly in the supermarket.

The new Kaimug concept is based on the idea of making high-quality and authentic Thai food available directly in the supermarket. In a small space, but with high quality, Kaimug offers over 50 different dishes that can be selected from a refrigerated display case all day long. At lunchtime, customers can also choose from four freshly prepared, hot meals.

All dishes are freshly prepared and retain their quality over a longer period of time. The price range is from 3.95 to 9.95 euros. The concept is aimed at price-conscious, quality-oriented customers.

The new Kaimug offer in Giesing is particularly interesting for the numerous offices and their staff in the large “Neue Balan – Campus of Ideas”, one of the largest office complexes in Munich. The concept has already aroused great interest there. The location in the REWE market is cleverly positioned to serve the needs of local business people and residents for fast, high-quality food.

The shop-in-shop concept is part of a pilot project that Kaimug has developed in cooperation with REWE. The aim is to expand the concept to other supermarket locations in Germany after a successful test phase. The cooperation with REWE is not exclusive, so Kaimug will also consider other locations for the project in the future.

WORDUP has been supporting the Kaimug Group in media communication since the beginning of the year. The innovative concept has been reported on MSN News, Yahoo News and in the Lebensmittelzeitung, among others.

  • Virtual press conferences: Cooperation with Creakom and Munich Press Club

Virtual press conferences: Cooperation with Creakom and Munich Press Club

During the Corona pandemic, virtual conferences boomed to enable exchange and collaboration even when spatially distributed. Fortunately, this time is now far behind us, but the use of transmission technologies for meetings and conferences has become established and is still used intensively. Not least cost arguments and the accessibility of large audiences have meant that hybrid events in particular are very often the focus of organizers. For PR and press officers, this format is particularly interesting in the context of press conferences (PC). On the one hand, media representatives can also be addressed professionally internationally. On the other hand, hybrid PCs also offer media professionals whose schedule does not allow them to visit the event venue a good opportunity to quickly and authentically find out about newsworthy content.

In collaboration with technology partner Creakom and location partner International Press Club Munich, WORDUP PR is now offering a tried and tested and innovative concept for hybrid events in Munich, which was already used in July 2024 in an extensive setting by the United Nations for the opening press conference to present the UNAIDS annual report. Around 80 journalists followed the international press conference on site at Marienplatz. Several hundred participants were connected digitally at the same time – as were three simultaneous interpreters who translated all content into English, French and German. The entire technical setup was implemented by the experienced service provider Creakom from Munich, with whom WORDUP has already been working for several years on organizing hybrid specialist conferences in the intellectual property sector. The Munich Press Club provided the premises and supported the advance information to an extensive media distribution list. WORDUP handled the on-site participant support and was responsible for the overall project to the United Nations as the general service provider.
